About Author and Filmmaker Diane M. Dresback

Storytelling. Whether it be in books, film, music, or through any other number of different mediums, it is a way for an artist to share their uniqueness with an audience. With any of these creative endeavors, the goal is to take another human being on a journey of sorts. After all, life is full of journeys both small and large.

I loved creative writing as a kid. Then one very influential college professor put an end to everything — at least for many years. I re-discovered my love of storytelling in 2002.

Starting with screenplays and filmmaking, an unexpected 2014 move to a small town in Texas prompted me to pen my first novel. I enjoyed the process so much that I decided to keep writing! I returned to Phoenix, Arizona in 2020.

Every writer has their own unique style and therefore appeal to certain types of readers. My stories often involve a strong female character paired with a psychological, sci-fi, or medical element. I write unique, women’s domestic thrillers that are quick read novels.

I also venture into true story books based on real life such as my book featuring stories from 25 inspirational women overcoming obstacles and an adoption novel based on my biological mother.

Diane M. Dresback author sons

My two sons are talented and creative individuals themselves, and excellent sounding boards for me. There’s no "sweet talking mom," but rather good, constructive and honest feedback! I am married to a most encouraging and supportive husband, enjoy two step-children, a daughter-in-law, a grand-baby and 2 grand-dogs. Oh, and I love taking sunset photographs, so you’ll probably see a few of those!

I’m always in search of readers who enjoy my storytelling. If you are one of them, I would be honored to send you a FREE SHORT STORY and add you to my email list. Get more details HERE.

Filmmaker

I also have a passion for independent film. In 2008, as an audience member, I attended a theatrical screening for a film competition. Many skilled local film directors walked onto the stage for a general introduction of themselves and their short films. What I noticed about the 15 people was that they were all men and only one of color. At that moment, I set out to change that statistic! And I did. I stood up there on many occasions since then along with other women and individuals of color.

After college I spent 7 years as a co-owner of a video production company focusing on corporate, industrial, and event projects. This was back in the day when we used prosumer cameras that connected to portable recording decks. We had a studio and two editing suites where customers could edit their own projects. Technology has come so far!

More information about my filmmaking escapades along with some of my films can be found at Mindclover.com.

Since then I have completed over 35 short films as writer, director, producer and various other production roles. Filmmaking is a collaborative effort and between myself and my talented cast and crews. We’ve won numerous awards. The Phoenix Film Foundation presented me with the 2012 Arizona Filmmaker of the Year Award at the Phoenix Film Festival.

I have written several feature length screenplays, including one I also produced called PARANOIA. Most of my novels began as film ideas, so I’m currently working to bring those stories to the screen.
