Making Time Expand

If we break down where our time goes for a few days, perhaps even a week, we get a true look at why we feel like there is never enough. An extra hour here, a half-hour there, five more minutes of this, a couple hours of that — the revelations can be very insightful.

You may already know the exact areas where you can recover some blocks of time. If not, consider examining how you truthfully spend your most valuable resource over the next few days. You might be very surprised at how many minutes and hours are spent engaged in activities you determine to not be that important.

Simply carry a small pad of paper or make notes in your phone. This whole inventory discussion is to prove to yourself how you are utilizing the 1,440 minutes we are all given in a day. It will offer a good starting place for readjusting and recovering both small and big chunks of your finite hours.

If we want to accomplish something, we need to sacrifice time for it. You get to choose where that comes from and the duration. Once you recognize the reality of time and how you are using it (as opposed to your perception of it), you might be surprised where you can squeeze out a few extra minutes or hours. Getting up a little earlier or going to bed a little later; cutting back slightly on some television, gaming or social media; not allowing yourself to don your comfy jammies until 2 boxes are emptied in that crammed garage!

Honestly, the question is how much time are you willing to carve out to dedicate to your project?

Though it can feel like a sacrifice, you may find that you actually enjoy the reallocation of time more than you expected. Especially if doing an enjoyable activity or feeling that you are gaining on an objective. You might be surprised at how once you make up your mind that something is that important to you, how much you can accomplish.
